Winter Dream's Story

A soft cry could be heard from the light clouds in the castle's chamber. As two tall figures approach the chamber's door, a gentle shush could be heard. They both entered, and there they saw a light blue alicorn, wings tipped with white, and beautifully silver hair streaked with a dark blue. The light blue alicorn told the others, "Shuuush... the dear is sleeping."

The two alicorns revealed themselves as Luna and Celestia. Celestia bowed her head, "Moon Rose, we are grateful that thou is alright. How is thy child fairing?"

Moon Rose replied, "Fine, thy greatest Celestia. Thou... As thy might now, thee deareth child was born blind. Though, I know that thee child will do something great to this kingdom..."

Luna, not exactly paying attention, called out, "Perhaps thou should send thy child to Alicorn school in a few years."

The light blue alicorn frowned. She didn't quite like that idea. In fact, she wanted the child to stay with her, never to be apart from her. Sighing, Moon Rose nodded, "Perhaps, thou should go to thy school soon... It's only a matter of time before thy child would have to part from we."

"Class, settle down," a voice called. Moon Rose, unlike most alicorns, preferred not to take the title of Princess, Queen, King, Prince. That's just her. Currently, after Celestia requested, Moon Rose sent Winter Dream to school. Being the only child currently, perhaps the youngest in class as well, Moon Rose hoped that the kids would behave. "Students, quiet down please," Moon Rose said again.

The class still wasn't quite behaving. Sol and Luna were all chatting from the front row. Both were older than Winter Dream by about 1 - 3 years. The other alicorns, were playing fetch with a pencil in the back. A pencil, well... That's them. Most of the time, they would throw a flower vase around, and break it. Some other alicorns would prance around or show off their talents.

Unlike the rest of the class, Winter Dream was busy sculpting a piece of a cloud, rolling it around, looking down from everyone else. Her blind eyes showed that she was quite nervous about being in her first session.

Moon Rose sighed, "Settle down everyone." The class continued to not pay attention. The light blue alicorn's horn started to glow in the color of the blue moon, as all the alicorns in the back. Luna, Sol, and Winter Dream stayed put as the other alicorns were sent to their seats. Clearing her throat, Moon Rose said, "Alright everyone, we have a few day and it'll be the 25th yearly Sunrise Celebration. On that day, we will show Princess Celestia our gifts and talents. Has everybody and their partner gotten through to starting the project yet?"

A quick muttering rippled through the class. Everyone nodded before Moon Rose listed the pairs on the board.

All the class was quite content with their non-changed pairs except one. The young alicorn was unhappy.

"Glacial Gust - Can I ask why you are so unhappy?" Moon Rose asked.

She looked around nervously before nodding and replying, "U-uhmm... It's because I don't want to work with Winter Dream. She's blind! It's not like she can help with anything - she can't see!"

Winter Dream looked down, her eyes dull as she heard the words. They never wanted her in this class just because she was blind. What's wrong with that?

Moon Rose sighed, "Alright, I'll have you work together with Flare Wind and add Dream to Sol and Luna's group." Looking at the two, she saw them both nod. Unlike the others, at least they didn't mind Dream's disability.

The blind alicorn sighed, "I have my own project I've been working on by myself... I-it's supposed to be a surprise for Celestia."

Eyeing her daughter, Moon Rose knew that Winter Dream hadn't been working on anything. She knew very well. "If you say so Dream. Alright, class - dismissed!" As the alicorns hurried out the door, Dream stayed behind. Moon Rose asked, "Are you sure you'll be OK going home by yourself while I grade the work? Father's not home and none of your relatives are over. You can stay here with me if you'd like."

Looking down, not meeting her mother's gaze, Winter Dream replied, "It's alright. I still have to work on my surprise." Walking out the door, the blind filly muttered, "Y-yeah... A great surprise..."

Winter Dream, now on a raincloud, sighed, "What sort of gift could I make for Princess Celestia? She'll... she'll...j-just laugh at me!" The poor alicorn's blind eyes were getting watery and a tear fell from her face. Instead of hitting the cloud's surface, the tear made a soft twinkling sound.

"Dream, you listen better than anyone I know. Don't worry, the stars will be able to aid you - they can grant wishes for you."

"Can they give me my vision then? I need that, right?"

"No my dear, you're special. Save your wishes for something you truly need..."

Looking up to the sky, Winter Dream said, "I'm not sure if you're out tonight... Or even around me, but I wish; I hope; I pray, that I can prove that I'm not helpless... That I can show everyone that I can do something special. I'm always looked down on wherever I go, so please... Please..." The blind filly's voice ended in a whisper. At that time, her mother called her in.

Skipping school the next day, Dream worked on her 'surprise' for Princess Celestia, coming up with no success.

"Maybe wishes don't come true... They never really work, right?" the alicorn said quietly, her eyes in despair. She had put too much hope on something that would've never came true. Of course, Dream never knew what would happen to her soon - something that would change Equestria forever.

Sighing, the blind alicorn started to walk to her 'room,' a cloud that elevates when somepony steps on it. At the same time, a harsh icy chill started to blow and water erupted from the windows, pouring into the castle.

Winter Dream, startled and frightened, started to fly, letting out a cry for help, but the water falling hit her wings, soaking them so that she couldn't fly. Holding her breath as best as she could, the centerpiece of the castle, a rose made from the moon's light, glowed and turned into a hole. Unable to hold her breath any longer, the blind filly allowed death to try taking hold of her.

However, she only fell unconscious. Soon later, a voice called to her, "Winter Dream... Wake up...

"Wha-what?... Didn't I die?" the alicorn asked, sleepily getting up. Shivering as a sudden chill came to her, she thought she wasn't supposed to be here.

"Do not worry... I'll return you to your family soon..."

"How?! Who are you and what do you want from me?" Dream cried out, terrified.

"I... am the Spirit Queen of the Waters and Frost! Holder of the Element of Water. You... are destined to create the beautiful frosts of the year that everyone will love! Your wish has been granted and I shall give you the power of the frost for you to create... Winter," the voice replied, revealing herself.

What was she? She was a unicorn, but she had wings made of ice. A necklace was on her, a centerpiece of a blue gem glowed.

An ominous glow started to swirl around Winter Dream... The blind filly couldn't see it, but she knew something big was happening. Closing her eyes, she felt that the cold chills from before had become gentle breezes of cool airs. Was this what this... winter that this Spirit Queen spoke of felt like?

Feeling her eyes forced open, they glowed and her horn erupted powerful magic. Soon, the whole world was filled with a white blanket that was cold, but wonderful.

Shaking off the feeling, a glow came from Dream's flank. Her cutie mark? What was it? She didn't know. Looking to where she thought the Spirit Queen of the Waters and Frost was, Dream asked, "Why'd you help me when I'm so useless to this world? Wouldn't it have been better off to kill me?"

The Queen replied, "No... Everypony has a purpose in this world and your's is to bring about the frost and white blanket of the world. You have my powers and I will come whenever you summon me..."

Dream then cried out as a bright light started to erupt from the "unicorn," "W-wait! I don't even know your name!"

The Queen smiled as she started to dissolve, "My name is Aura."

After everything had gone off, Dream was back at her place. She heard her mother calling for her from inside, sounding worried sick. Following her mother's voice, she said, "M-mother, look! Look at the... the... snow I made outside!"

Moon Rose looked around, "Winter Dream, what are you talking about? What snow?"

"The one outside! Just look!" Dream insisted, leading her mother outside, or what she thought was outside. Feeling the soft coolness, she knew she was in the right place.

Her mother looked around, amazed. Looking at her daughter's flank, she knew that the blind filly wasn't kidding. "Oh Dream, this is amazing! I told you that you were something special. Let's head to the celebration, you're already late dear!"

Dream nodded, "Just a moment mother! You go ahead, I'll be there in a moment!" Heading back into her room, she called, "A-aura! Can you come out please?"

The Spirit Queen came out from the clouds, asking, "Yes? What is your will?"

Looking nervously, she replied, "C-can you... give me my vision so that I can see the snow I made?"

"I'm sorry, but until you can prove your powers, I'm not allowed to grant such a thing. Au revoir..." Aura replied, disappearing again.

"Come on! Please?" Dream sighed as the spirit disappeared. Walking out towards her mother, she kinda wished to know what Aura was talking about. Powers? Really?
